2017 Rockie Award winner profile: Dot
Making a dinner for 30, opening a neighbourhood lemonade stand and winning at the 2017 Rockie Awards were all part of the adventures of Dot last year. The animated series, from Industrial Brothers in association with The Jim Henson Company and CBC, took home the 2017 Rogers Prize for Excellence in Canadian Content.
Dot is based on the children’s book of the same name written by New York Times bestselling author and entrepreneur, Randi Zuckerberg. The show targets four- to seven-year-olds and follows Dot as she embarks on adventures to satisfy her imagination. Each episode ends with Dot giving young viewers a call-to-action to get inspired and explore what excites them.
The series was paired with Dot-o-pedia, an app that provides a space for children to explore, create and interact with Dot. Kids are able to use the app to create a personalized Dot-o-pedia, similar to the extensive encyclopedia on Dot’s tablet on the TV show.
