Snapshot 2013 Media Release: Manitoba On A Roll

October 30, 2013

On October 29th, 2013, On Screen Manitoba released Snapshot 2013: an Economic Impact Report on the Manitoba Media Production Industry.

Snapshot 2013 provides a comprehensive review of the Manitoba media production industry’s structure, workforce, emerging trends and significant contributions to the province’s economy, as well as the social and cultural benefits it generates.

With over 65 people in attendance, On Screen Manitoba’s media conference was a huge success garnering attention from CBC-Radio-Canada, CTV and the Winnipeg Free Press.

Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger surprised ED Nicole Matiation with a letter confirming additional support for this fiscal year and both Manitoba Film and Music‘s Carol Vivier and On Screen Manitoba chair Joanne Levy gave speeches outlining the significant increase in co-productions, and the importance of the production incentives our province offers.

“The more Manitoba screen companies develop and produce their own productions, the more sustainable over the long term the film, TV and online industry will become. The government incentives are a crucial element in producing Manitoba content that Manitobans own or share in,” said Nick Hirst, CEO of Original Pictures.

Nicole Matiation presented the key findings of the study and spoke about the increase in production of animation, visual effects and interactive television components in the province naming Opus VFX and Tactica as Winnipeg’s  players in this area.

“We’re proud to be able to do this work in Manitoba, not only as a service company, but as a creative company that retains ownership of the work we create.” says Kevin Glasier, President and Interactive Producer at Tactica Interactive.
