There are several important consultations underway with the CRTC. On December 1, On Screen Manitoba filed a written intervention with regard to Phase I of the CRTC’s consultation on future programming distribution models for Canadian content. This week the Commission announced Phase II along with a reference document. Phase II will include public opinion research starting in January 2018. On Screen Manitoba will submit additional written comments by the January 31 deadline. On December 8, On Screen Manitoba filed a written intervention with regard to the mandatory distribution (9(1)(h)) licence renewals for APTN and TV5 Unis. On Screen Manitoba is requesting to appear at the hearing scheduled for April 30, 2018. Finally, On Screen Manitoba will be preparing a written submission in response to the Commission’s call for comments 2017-428 regarding the “Reconsideration of the decisions relating to the licence renewals for the television services of large French-language private ownership groups.” The deadline to provide comments in January 23, 2018. This consultation is in direct response to Order in Council P.C. 2017-1060, issued on August 14, 2017 as a result of a broad-based petition that was led by the CMPA and communicated to On Screen Manitoba members in July. Members wishing to discuss any of the above are invited to contact Executive Director, Nicole Matiation or Vice-Chair Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs, Leslea Mair.
