Manitoba Legislature: Speech From the Throne

November 26, 2018

The Speech from the Throne, which launched another session of the Manitoba legislature on November 20, outlined plans to deliver the results of the economic development review conducted by Dave Angus and Barb Gamey. In the coming weeks, the action plan includes the re-organization of the Department of Growth, Enterprise and Trade (GET). The Speech did not make any direct mention of the arts and cultural industries; however, several other items may impact the creative sector, including: the Commission to review K to grade 12 education; implementation of French language services; plans to streamline provincial supports to the non-profit sector and develop matching funds; Manitoba’s 150th anniversary; and a new provincial tourism strategy.
