Alain Delannoy is a Canadian independent animation filmmaker. Born in Winnipeg, Canada, Delannoy studied at the University of Manitoba’s School of Art. He has created several short animated films, which have screened internationally in such festivals as the Palm Springs International Shortfest, the Ann Arbor Film Festival, the official competition at the Montreal World Film Festival and the Foyle Film Festival in Northern Ireland. His film « FRACTION » (2012) was awarded the prize for Best Experimental Film at the Rhode Island International Film Festival and was presented in the Best of the World Program at the Hiroshima Animation Festival in Japan. Currently, Delannoy teaches animation and video production at Université de Saint-Boniface in Manitoba, Canada.
In this film, several adults share memories of the time when their parents first tried to explain sex to them. Using real-life recordings of these recollections and a mix of animation techniques, these stories vividly come to life–showing us that it is truly one of life’s strangest and most awkward occurrences.
“FRACTION” is a hand drawn animated short film written, directed and animated by Alain Delannoy. Without spoken language, the film follows the story of an elderly artist who, caught in a battle of time, struggles to complete his body of work. Produced over a span of four years, thousands of handcrafted drawings were created to compose and ultimately complete this short film.
“MONUMENT” is a hand drawn animated film written, directed, animated and produced by Alain Delannoy. This independent production was inspired by thematic elements found in the filmmaker’s French Canadian heritage and has proven to be his most challenging and ambitious projects to date. Produced over a span of five years, four thousand handcrafted drawings were created to compose and ultimately complete this twelve minute long film.
"Navette - Shuttle" is the poetic tale of a boy who is captivated by the idea of going into space. Through his imagination, he rides the wings of the shuttle, but as the story continues, he is awakened to his role and identity within the universe.
