Richard Duffy


Richard Duffy has been working in the Film and Television industry for almost 25 years, primarily as an Assistant Director, but more recently as a producer. Over the years he has worked in every province and territory in Canada (with the unfortunate exception of Newfoundland), as well as having worked on productions in England, France, Italy, the United States and the Caribbean. He has worked with a wide variety of producers, directors, clients, media outlets, actors (from A-List Hollywood Stars, to the 'yet to be discovered' ones) not to mention athletes, stunt performers, musicians, politicians, journalists, crowds, children, animals, and of course, in this line of work, all kinds of egos. Mr. Duffy has worked on a variety of productions ranging from Hollywood blockbusters including the Academy Award nominated film The Assassination of Jesse James… (with Brad Pitt and Jeremy Renner), as well as working on projects such as Shall we Dance? (with Richard Gere, Jennifer Lopez & Susan Sarandon) and The 6th Day (with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Robert Duval), Goon (with Liev Schreiber, Seann William Scott & Jay Baruchel) and the soon to be released Ice Road (with Liam Neeson) not to mention a wide variety of smaller independent projects such as the 2016 Eagle Vision production Lovesick (with Jacob Tierney, Jessica Pare & Jay Baruchel). In 2010 he worked on the influential, award winning Eagle Vision docu-drama We Were Children.- an in depth journey through Canada’s shameful Residential School system through the eye of two of its survivors. More recently he served as the Supervising Producer on all four seasons of Eagle Vision’s award winning series TAKEN (where he also served as Director and researcher) – a true crime documentary series focusing on solving the mysteries behind Canada’s missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls by sharing their stories as told by their loved ones. TAKEN was nominated for best factual Television series in 2018 and has gone on to win several Canadian Screen awards in the years since. Mr. Duffy has also served as a 1st AD on several significant Television Series; including 3 seasons on the Canadian Screen Award winning HBO Canada’s Less than Kind and two stints on the FX’s Emmy Award willing show Fargo, and all three season of the IFC/ Eagle Vision series Burden of Truth. Mr. Duffy is a full member of the Director’s Guild of Canada (since 1999) and has served time on the executive board of the DGC Manitoba District Council (2003-2007). He has also served as a mentor and an instructor in the National Screen Institute’s “New Voices” program from 2009- 2012 and he regularly participates as a production mentor in Film Training Manitoba’ mentorship program. Passionate about tales of injustice, Mr. Duffy holds a Masters Degree in Film and Literature from the University of Manitoba and enjoys spending his rare days off watching the Winnipeg Jets with his six year old son Dominic.
