Our Advocacy

As the voice of the industry and reflecting our commitment to develop all components of media production in Manitoba, On Screen Manitoba advocates for a positive filming environment in Manitoba by participating in local and national stakeholder consultations.

This advocacy work aims to create and protect provincial and federal programs and policies that support Manitoba-based creators, producers and industry professionals.

Local Advocacy

On Screen Manitoba is in regular conversation with the Province and other levels of government, including the Government-Industry Tax Credit Working Group (2018) that led to a permanent film and video tax credit in Manitoba.

At All Access 2019, the Honourable Cathy Cox, Minister of Sport, Culture & Heritage, announced that the Manitoba Film & Video Production Tax Credit would become permanent and the sunset clause would be removed. Video Courtesy of Les Productions MIDCAN Productions Inc.

On Screen Manitoba engages with Manitoba service organizations, Government, our membership and other industry professionals to determine needs and gaps, identify opportunities, and develop new initiatives to support the industry as a whole.

We foster collaboration through the Manitoba Media Production Industry Working Group., which meets several times annually. The Working Group has supported the development of the Preserving Film Locations Guide, Manitoba Code of Conduct, Health & Safety Guide and the COVID-19 Health and Safety Guide.

Our public awareness campaign Get On Set Manitoba was created in partnership with industry stakeholders to support workforce development.
