The Banff World Media Festival is now accepting entries for the 2025 Rockie Awards. Submit your entries by January 24, 2025.
*NEW* The 71st International Short Film Festival Oberhausen is accepting short films in all genres. Submit by January 26, 2025.
*NEW* The TIFF Next Wave Film Festival is accepting short films from Canadian filmmakers aged 14 to 26 for the Young Creators Showcase. Submit by January 31, 2025.
*NEW* The 2025 Festival de Cannes Compétition Immersive seeks groundbreaking XR, MR, AI-driven experiences, video mapping, installations, and performances that push storytelling boundaries. Submit by February 3, 2025.
*NEW* The imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival is accepting submissions for its 25th edition. Deadline is on February 7, 2025.
Freeze Frame's Youth Video Contest returns, inviting filmmakers aged 6 to 18 to submit short films for screening at the 2025 Freeze Frame International Film Festival from March 9-15. Submissions are due by February 14, 2025.

The Berlin International Film festival - February 13-23, 2025

The Canada Media Fund’s Changing Narratives Fund supports diverse creators in media and culture. The application opens on November 21 and closes on December 20.

Awards and Competitions
The Canadian Short Screenplay Competition (CSSC) is accepting short screenplays for the Writers’ Block Crystal Award, offering the chance to have the winning script produced. Submit by the early bird deadline on January 26, 2025.
The WorldMediaFestivals Television & Corporate Media Awards 2025 is officially open for entries. Deadline for submission is January 31, 2025.
The Youth Media Alliance (YMA) is accepting entries for the 2023-2024 English-speaking Awards of Excellence, open to Canadian children’s and youth productions. The deadline for submissions is February 9, 2025.

A nation-wide qualitative study examining factors that contribute to the inclusion/exclusion of BIPOC women from industry networking events.
Racial Equity Media Collective — Evaluating Racial Equity in Canada’s Screen Sector
A report to collect race-based data to measure inequity. Finding that this was not possible, it became a call to the government to make this information more accessible and to formalize a new, safe way to collect data.
National Film Board of Whose Canada?
The Racial Equity Screen Office published this racial equity audit on productions that were funded by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) from 2012 to 2021, which claims that the NFB has failed to provide equal opportunities to Black and racialized creatives behind the camera.
DOC Institute Funding Analysis for BIPOC Documentary Content in Canada
This analysis reports inequities in funding distribution for documentary production and highlight barriers for documentary creators who identify as Indigenous, Black or racialized in the Canadian film and television industry. The report analyzed data from 2018 through 2020, but found there was limited data.
Telefilm Canada Eco-Awareness Survey Report
Ninety-six percent of respondents reported not only being interested in sustainable/green production practices, but also thinking it is important to incorporate these practices in the workplace. Consult Telefilm’s Eco-responsibility Action Plan.
Canadian Media Fund 2023 Key Trends Report

Canada Media Fund Mental Health in the Documentary Sector
This report is based on a Hot Docs session hosted by Malikkah Rollins and Sarah Spring dedicated to DocuMentality, their recent report about the well-being and mental health of industry professionals working in the documentary sector.
Accessible Media Inc. Accessible Writers Lab Report
Accessible Media Inc. released its first report from the Accessible Writers Lab, which determined that writing rooms for Canadian media need to adapt to remove barriers for disabled writers.

This report documents women’s employment in Canada’s publicly funded film, television and documentary from 2019 to 2021.
