Business Affairs Workshops for Emerging Producers and Filmmakers in partnership with Winnipeg Film Group


The Business Affairs Workshops aim to equip emerging producers and filmmakers with essential knowledge and skills in the business and legal aspects of film production. This comprehensive series of evening workshops is designed to support the growth of sustainable production practices and empower participants to navigate the complexities of the film industry effectively.

This training program is in partnership with the Winnipeg Film Group.

Program Schedule:

Session 1: Intro to Business Affairs and Incorporating, Structuring, and Organizing a Production Company

  • Date: February 11

  • Time: 6:00 – 9:00 PM

Speaker: Hannah Johnson

  • Overview: A foundational session on key business affairs in film production, covering legal considerations and company structuring.

Speaker: Ravi Balchan and Lisa Haydey (Manitoba Legal Clinic for the Arts)

  • Overview: Guidance on setting up and organizing production companies, including legal structures and best practices.

Session 2: Permits and Insurance

  • Date: February 19

Session 3: Film Production Tax Credits
